Gentlemen, fight the Portuguese, not your own fans…

1986.jpgTo get back to the Champions League and to the Porto game, Marseille is everything but poised at the moment. Of course the staff will have you believe otherwise, with Eric Gerets saying how the Champions League is a reason for joy and nothing zelse and how he wants his players to have some fun on the pitch and how he trusts and loves them. But behind all the declarations, the particular way they have been talking to André Ayew (Abedi Pelé’s son who was the only player with some spirit against Lorient) the past two days would predict that the youngster will start alongside mamadou Niang on tuesday night. Gerets has been seen talking extensively to the kid all day so this may be the surprise to try to hurt Djibril Cissé’s pride and force him to work some more.
Just to show you how peaceful he’s been lately, here’s a video of Djibril picking a fight with one of the Marseillais fans that wa in Porto to welcome the team. They start exchanging amabilities that I don’t need to translate. This was this afternoon in Porto.

Let’s see how this turns out tomorrow.

I know I’ve said it a million times already but Habib Beye’s departure is the reason for all this mess. At least when we were playing bad, we were showing some spirit because the captain would have made sure of that. I still miss the hell out of him.
The group that will be playing against Porto changed once more since Karim Ziani stayed in Marseille because of a knee injury that woke up saturday. jacques faty is still not able to report for duty so Salim Arrache and Matt Moussilou were in the plane this afternoon.

mars_log1.jpg Keepers : Mandanda, Hamel
Defenders : Bonnart, Taiwo, Givet, Zubar, Rodriguez
Midfielders : Cana, MBami, Cheyrou, Zenden, Oruma, Nasri, Valbuena
Stikers : Arrache, Cissé, Niang, Ayew, Moussilou

porto.jpgKeepers : Helton, Nuno
Defenders : Bosingwa, Bruno Alves, Cech, Fucile, Pedro Emmanuel, Stepanov
Midfielders : Assuncao, Bolatti, Kazmierczak, Lima, Meireles, Mariano Gonzales, Quaresma, Sektioui
Stikers : Adriano, Lisandro Lopez, Helder Postiga.

Porto’s group is not important. Lucho Gonzalez won’t be playing but those guys are just undefeatable at home. I won’t be the first one to tell you that “Impossible n’est pas Marseillais” but still….

Some pictures taken today at the sublime Stadio do Dragao.

Porto are a tough team. They whipped Lyon 2-0 at the Dragao, and that was when we had Essien AND Diarra.

But you never know. Everyone was expecting Liverpool to walk over Marseille at Anfield, and we all know how that turned out.

    yeah sure!
But Porto will put a good team in front of us.
To be honest , Benitez played us with benayoun leto and sisssoko. None of them are world class players.
if they brought their A-team, that wouldn’t have necessarily been the case. Even though Marseille played great there
