Mandanda to Bayern?

By: Richard | October 27th, 2009

mandanda
Sarah and I have certainly had a lot to write about with this whole swine flu debacle and it seems the news keeps on coming for OM. Reports are now that the Bavarian giants Bayern Munchen have set their sights on our very own Mandanda. Over the summer Bayern made a slew of summer signings and though they were eclipsed by the Galacticos nonetheless they greatly improved their squad. However finding a definitive reliable keeper has eluded the Germans ever since the departure of the great Oli Kahn. I truly hope this stays nothing more than a rumor I would be hugely disappointed if Mandanda left (I mean I still miss Cana!). Remember that Steve extended his contract with us back in the summer so I think he’s here to stay….hopefully.

Agreed on both counts (Mandanda and Cana). I doubt he will leave before the World Cup, and I’m skeptical if he will ever leave for the German league.

I think that French goaltenders do better in France. That is why you see most of the national team goaltenders (not just now but in the past) come from Ligue 1 teams. Even players like Barthez even finds his way back to Ligue 1. I think if any player moved out of Ligue 1, that it will hurt their careers.

Of course, there are the exceptions, like Sebastian Frey.

I frankly think this is typical rumor-mongering. Bayern wants one of the young German keepers, preferably Neuer. But any up and coming keeper is going to be on the transfer rumor radar until Bayern actually buy someone.

I don’t know why they would want anyone young. Khan was 800 years old and still kicked ass!

Mandanda would be insane to go to Bayern (a) right before the World Cup (b) ever. He and Ribery are still in contact, and with Ribery wanting out of there as bad as he does, there’s no way he has encouraging things to say about Bayern!

I would now hate players leaving Ligue 1 for Serie A & Bundesliga.

Boy would this be a big blow for OM or what? But you have to expect he is going to leave a some point in the near future. Let’s face it this is one of the most coveted young keepers in the world. I would not be surprised if Arsene Wenger at Arsenal makes a move for him at some point. This type of talent never sticks around Ligue 1 for long. As we all know the league is probably the best feeder league in the world.

Again, most French keepers stay within French borders, and I think that will be the case for Mandanda.

Most French keepers stay in France? Forever? Barthez, Lama, Warmuz, Itandje and many others have played at least some part of their careers outside of France.
