Injuries and Recoveries Before Nancy
By: Sarah | October 14th, 2009
First, lets get the bad news over with…
Niang reportedly suffered a bad sprain in his knee in training yesterday. The OM medical staff are not optimistic that he will be able to recover before Nancy.
Diawara is also probably out with a hamstring injury.
Losing these players, even against Nancy, is a serious loss for OM. Niang has been in really good form since the beginning of the season, and although I have been tough on Diawara this season– but losing game time is not going him and Heinze build a more effective defensive partnership. And does this mean we will have to play with Cisse for a whole match?
One a more positive note…
Lose a striker in Niang, at least we could possibly gain one back in Kone who has been expected to return for over a week now…at least he has officially resumed training again with the rest of the group.
Valbuena has recovered from his injury he sustained in the friendly with Nimes last weekend and is training with the group.
And Richard will be thrilled to know that Brandao is also expected to return to the team this weekend– he has also resumed training with the team.
Getting both Kone and Brandao back won’t completely replace the player we are losing in Niang, but it does soften the blow. I would normally be thrilled that Valbuena was returning, but who knows if DD will even choose him…

I hate Brandao. I hope Valbuena starts ahead of Kone. Kone will be lacking match fitness.

@Aditya:
Not sure how/why you would hate Brandao. He’s been one of the only good players thus far. Morientes is a MUCH bigger disappointment in my mind. As for Valbuena and Kone, I’m with you completely. Let’s just win already!Posted from

I did not expect much from Morientes in first half of season. In second half his experience will help the team.
I hate Brandao because his on the ball play & pace result in lost opportunities quite often. Against Bordeaux this season his lack of those skills was exposed. I know his physical presence and aerial ability helps the team and so he is important. OM should upgrade on him whenever they get a chance.

I was just reading L’Equipe and it seems like Niang will make the trip.

But if Niang isn’t 100% should we risk him since we need him to be completely fit for Zurich…and later PSG? We should be abel to beat Nancy without him…the other two teams though, I’m no so sure..
