Hello Baky!
By: Magnusson | July 18th, 2008
The soap of the summer (incredibly short by other season’s standards) is finally over and done with. Bakary Koné and Nice came to an agreement this morning when the player decided to let them have part of the 630.000 Euros he was entitled to (7% of his tranfer, a clause similar to Ben Arfa’s) in order to start training back at the Commanderie next week. As you may recall, Marseille and the player have agreed on terms ever since June (Four years and a tripled salary according to a few Nice forums) and the two clubs agreed this tuesday on 9 million and an additionnal one if marseille qualifies for the next Champions League. They talked a few more hours for the percentage of Baky’s eventual resale and finally Nice won’t receive anything more. The only “heavy detail” (Koné’s words) was the remaining 630GS but I believ Baky’s will to come was stronger, like in Ben Arfa’s case.
This morning, during the traditionnal friday morning press conference, our belgian coach was obviously thrilled at the idea of the new recruit and showed his enthousiasm.
“I fought long and hard with José (Anigo) to get this player and I must thank my President and the Staff for this player. If Koné could have the same season with us that he ahd last year with Nice, that would be fantastic! As we know the guy, it won’t take him long to be in top shape. Eevrybody knows his style and his qualities, all we’ll have to work on will be the automatisms in attacking to make sure his skills are well used as was the case in Nice last season.
Koné is a player who moves a lot when he has to and when it’s time to get the ball. He’ll be complementary in the game with Niang, Cissé or Ben Arfa but it will be my job to place them on the field properly. It will be my responsibility. But every coach in france would love to have this responsibility.”
Hooray, I think our Mercato is pretty much done unless one or two mùore players leave.

Good to see Gerets persistent with this transfer. Just goes to show he’s got the necessary influence and authority within the team/club. Wonder though is there room enough for all of these players (BA, Niang, Cisse and Kone) to start or perhaps one of them will make way (possibly through a transfer -> Cisse)?

Sinan, I really think we’ve had an interesting team for three years but this is the first time in a long time where a lot of things seem to go our way. Our coach is great and the team shows a lot of potential. I mean we’ve been second and third in the last two seasons. It’s time to bring home ANY silverware.

I think La provence has reported that Givet is close to a move to the Greek team, Panathinaikos F.C.

Yeah Naku thanks, I said it in the comments yesterday and am preparing another mega post for tomorrow morning. The thing is Eric Gerets said Mbami won’t leave and neither would Givet nor Civelli.
II heard José Anigo say one of them at the most could leave but Civelli has been linked to Bologna and Givet to Panathinaikos. I don’t know, he’s from the area, maybe he’ll want to stay, maybe he’ won’t. The thing is if he goes to Greece, he’ll have to say goodbye to the new French National team at 26. Same with Cissé if he goes to Wigan or Redaing.Posted from
