Vittorino Hilton, It’s done!
By: Magnusson | May 31st, 2008
An avalanche of good news seems to be balancing out the few bad ones we’ve had these days. After Samir Nasri’s now certain departure (it seems to be a salary problem between the player and Arsenal at this point), we are trying to get rid of all the dead weight (no offense to those concerned) and on our way to recruiting very solid players. It’s now been officialized by the player himself but Lens defender and captain Vittorino Hilton will be playing for us next year. In an interview with La Provence, he said he wanted to come and now it has been revealed that Lens and Marseille are close to a deal. Lens wanted more money than this but apparently the two clubs will settle on 5 million.
Nancy’s Kim is also pretty sure he’ll be playing the Champions League with us next year. But the negociations are going to be a little longer for the brazilian. Jacques Rousselot and Pape Diouf met on thursday evening and Marseille gave an offer of approximately 7 or 8 million while Nancy won’t budge from the 10 million they want. A deal is bound to happen as the president of Nancy said himself:
«Zenit Saint Petersburg made a pretty interesting proposition to us but Kim said that he wanted to remain in France, either at Nanacy or at Marseille. And we won’t be blocking the departure of a more than deserving player.»
The mercato is shaping up and Eric Gerets seems to be doing what he said he would. Trimming the “fat” and recruiting players who can handle the pressure of the Vélodrome and also help us in the different compettions we will be playing next year.
Marseille is still in talks to get players such as Baky Koné, Hatem Benarfa, Kim Kallström, Amine Chermiti and Soufiane Alloudi.

Hilton is an experienced player, but I am still bitter about the penalty affair two years ago, and I don’t think I am the only one. Now, it’s really up to him to show us that he really deserves his place among the elite of OM.

If Gerets has his way, Marseille can be champs next year. Gerets loves younger players with that desire to win championships. I myself am a big Gerets fan after what he did with Galatasaray.

When Gerets was appointed I wasn’t very excited but now after seeing his work for several months I am convinced that he is the right guy to take Marseille forward. I hope Anigo and Diouf let Gerets decide on what players he wants.
