Karim Ziani, Algerian Player of the Year…
By: Magnusson | December 19th, 2007
On sunday night, Just after the Bordeaux game, Karim Ziani and Jacques Faty flew from Bordeaux to Algiers, capital of Algeria, to receive the trophy for Algerian Player of the Year 2007 awarded to the former thanks to his amazing performances with Sochaux all throughout the 2006/2007 season which ended in the fairytale ending that was the final of the Coupe de France. The trophy, which is also called the “Ballon d’Or” is given by two local newspapers, “Le Buteur” and “Al Heddaf”. Pape Diouf couldn’t make the trip because of his recent back surgery so it was up to OM legend Josip Skoblar to represent the club.
Karim Ziani received the trophy from Andreas Brehme, German World Champion from 1990. The link between Andy Brehme and Algeria? I have no clue. But it was a nice little ceremony retransmitted live on Algerian T.V. Other question you might ask, how come Jacques Faty of all the Marseille players was the other one invited instead of, I don’t know, the OTHER Algerian international on our team Salim Arrache? Anyway, it was nice nonetheless. Now that Karim is looking a little more like his last year’s self, maybe this trophy will help him finish the year the way he started it.
Karim Ziani won the trophy and his runner-up is none other than Lyon player Nadir Belhadji and Algerian local Lazhar Hadj Aissa who completes the podium.
Here is a small extract of the Live TV retransmission.

Rafik Saïfi didn’t even get on the podium? Oh well, too bad. After all, it’s only during this summer that he really showed his level. Last season he was disappointing at Ajaccio.

Saïfi’s good, but this is for the 06/07 season. And at that time, if not for Ribery, Ziani was maybe the most exciting player in Ligue1.
Oh and good luck for tonight man!
I’ll be rooting for you guys with all my heartPosted from
