Kanga Akalé is also in…

By: Magnusson | January 10th, 2008

akale_presentation.jpgKanga Akalé has been loaned to Marseille for the rest of the season by Lens with the possibility for us to buy the left-winger. Now I hate being the party pooper (or however you may spell that) but I’m really not impressed by this “find”. Ok Marseille wanted Akalé when Jean Fernandez was still here and he didn’t come over. We know he’s been a great replacement to Khalilou Fadiga when the latter was transfered to Inter Milan after a stellar 2002 season and World Cup with Senegal. Kanga Akalé replaced him effortlessly and became one of the main options at Auxerre.
Everybody believed Lens did a great thing by recruiting him this summer when Guy Roux managed to convince him to come to Lens with him and Bonaventure Kalou. Now with the few games I’ve watched this season, I do believe that he may have deserved a little more playing time on the Lens roster that has been lacking something to say the least but coming to Marseille to restart a career is not the best of things. Word to matt Moussilou.

43010.jpgThis is not the club where he’ll be able to have a few lackluster games before the public starts booing him. Thye will instantly be expecting some great things from someone who hasn’t been good at all lately. Look at it this way, he lost his spot on the Cote d’Ivoire national team. José Anigo pretty much imposed him to Eric Gerets and the coach said something quite confusing:

“He participated to his first training this morning. he was not disappointed. he knows it’s going to be hard for him to play and he’ll need to work hard to prove us that we were not wrong in recruiting him. José Anigo fought me to get him and if Akalé doesn’t have a stellar season, José will have a head injury at the end of the season”

Now this was said as a joke but you have to understand this was not his priority since Marseille has Zenden and Ayew at the left-inger position and Akalé’s recruitment was only to replace the departure of Salim Arrache as the fourth option on that side of the attack.
I really hope with all my heart that I’m wrong about this but I think we may have made a mistake with this guy.
