Hilton is Marseillais…

By: Magnusson | June 12th, 2008

It took a little more than expected. In the last few days, Vittorino Hilton’s entourage received loads of offers for the brazilian once PSG changed presidents. Charles Villeneuve decided that the parisians needed someone new indefense and Hilton or Le Man’s Marko Basa (whom José Anigo was also in talks with) were top priorities. Thankfully for us, Hilton, who has been courted on and off for the last three seasons, decided before going on vacation that Marseille would be the perfect spot for him. At 30, the centre back still hasn’t experienced the Chmpions League and wouldn’t have been able to with Lens relegated in Ligue2. After a few more talks, Gervais Martel came to better sentiments and accepted to sell an excellent defender for the very reasonnable price of 5 million.
This also means that either Gaël Givet or Jacques Faty will have to leave. The two french internationals have disappointed to say the least with a slight edge to Gaël Givet who seemed to come into his own and look a little bit like he did at Monaco before getting injured a few times. To be fair with Faty, he also has been injured a bunch but has yet to turn in a better performance than, say, Ronald Zubar.
So far, we’re packing where we lacked last year but we still haven’t replace Samir Nasri. I heard that kid Yassine Chikhaoui is good.

Hopefully. If we get good players such as him, we’ll be very strong and very hard to beat.
