Samir Nasri back on French National Team…

By: Magnusson | November 8th, 2007

une_ff_20071106.jpgRaymond Domenech gave his list of players that will play against Morocco and Ukraine a little later this month. The good news for Marseille is that Samir Nasri is back in. Neither Gaël Givet nor Djibril Cissé are in but that was predictable given our lackluster season. Julien Rodriguez will have to be as good as last year to be a candidate again.
Some choices are more questionnable. David Trézeguet is still not included. Pascal Chimbonda will never wear the national uniform ever again under Domenech. François Clerc (who, if I’m not mistaken is not a starter at Lyon anymore) comes back to the group and so is Marseille product Mathieu Flamini who is “Raymond la Science”’s latest man-crush. Alou Diarra has been called back and given his good start with Bordeaux, it makes a lot of sense. He’ll have the heavy task of replacing Patrick Vieira, still injured. I’m a little disappointed not to see Abou Diaby while Lassana Diarra who doesn’t play is called up. Ray Ray once again does what he wants.
Oh and no Phillippe Méxès, this dude is the best defender in Italy.

Lassana does play, just not as often, but then again Diaby does not either, and given Lassana’s ability to play at right back, he gets the call, although I would like to see Diaby called up as well. Rothen is a waste of space, and why we dont have atleast one creative central midfielder (Bodmer, Matiudi etc.) is beyond me…

France has more midfielders than we need. Bodmer won’t play in France because he chose Lyon instead of another club. Lassana played twice in the carling cup this season but not in the premiership yet. The only way to take him is if Makelele is not. Abou Diaby can play anywhere he wants.
I’m a marseillais fan but you can’t tell me Rothen is not impressive.

i think bodmer will eventually get the callup when he starts imposing himself more at lyon. currently kim kallstrom is starting over him but that’s also because bodmer has been forced to play out of position for most of the season with all of lyon’s injuries in defence. if bodmer puts a few really good games together i think people will start to take notice of him. domenech has no problem calling up lyon players.

I’m hoping Benzema, Nasri, and Ben Arfa play together during the Morocco friendly. That will be so sweet to watch!

So what’s the deal with Chimbonda and Domenech? Anybody know?

There’s no deal, he (chimbonda) himself doesn’t know. The popular theory is that he was not feeling Evra at the time and thought he was smug or something and that he may not want to sit out the whole competition. Apparently when he went to see a game in England between Wigan and Manchester. And an english journalist asked him if it was true he was there to see if the newly elected best right back in England would be playing for France at the World Cup. People say that’s when he learned of his existence.
I have no problem believing that because now that Willy Sagnol is out, he coul’ve called Chimbonda who is still impressive with Tottenham as opposed to Clerc who doesn’t play for Lyon. At least Chimbonda is a pure right back who can cross the ball
