Raymond Domenech announces A’, we are confused…
By: Magnusson | August 21st, 2007Raymond Domenech announced the sixteen players playing for the French Natrional A’ team tonight at 7PM against Slovakia A’ in Senec, and there are some surprises. David Trézeguet and Djibril Cissé who are first team regualrs will play with the second team wjile Benzema, Henry, Malouda, Ribéry and Anelka will be playing tomorrow. Something even more surprising is the presence of Squllacci of Lyon on the second team, Domenech volontarily casting out one of the few natural defenders left on his squad. Gaël Givet and Mexes were also predicted to then be playing starters tomorrow but our defender missed his plane in Paris yesterday and was alone in Vienna last night and missed the traditional breakfast with the group this morning in Bratislava so maybe he’ll get punished. He might try out Abidal in the center as Patrice Evra will be here to insure the sides.
Let’s just say he likes to keep us guessing but we’re kinda guessing he has no clue either what to do with this bastardly assembled team. Last year when everybody was criticizing him for taking Djibril Cissé with the A team and making him pley when he was not fit yet, and now that Djib started scoring again and everybody expects him to play with Anelka, he makes him play with Trezeguet. Maybe he wants to try out a combination for the Euro 2008 or something, let’s just see what happens tonight.
Here are the two squads:
The A’s
Frey, Richert – Réveillère, Zebina, Squillaci, Boumsong, Z. Camara, Mathieu, Silvestre – L. Diarra, Mavuba, A. Diarra – Cissé, Piquionne, Briand, Trezeguet.
The As
Landreau, Ramé – Clerc, Sagna, Givet, Mexès, Abidal, Evra – Makelele, Nasri, Toulalan, Vieira – Anelka, Benzema, Henry, Malouda, Ribéry.

I too was surprised to see Squillaci on the A’ list because he is better than Givet (no offense though – I personally think Squillaci is better than Cris too). But then at this stage Cisse is more a senior player than Benzema and has proved more on the international level, so I suppose the embarrassments are going around.
I think Domenech did say something about mixing some senior players in with the junior ones though. So that could be why. Playing a virgin lineup against even Slovakia’s B team is a big gamble, so the experience of older players can’t hurt.

What is scarying me it is the few possibility of substitutes for the two teams. Usually there was an agreements between the two countries for the number of subs which permitted a large choice, but i ve heard that there is a new international rule about it.(i m not sure). If it s true it was completly stupid, because a friendly match should allow a maximum combinations with a minimum risk of injury. To Squillaci, trezegguet and Cissé, Domenech said that he preferred see them play for the A’ than be subs in the A.

I saw the second half of the game: Sucky! Silvestre was particularly horrible. But it was exceptionally funny when Zebina came off and there was that confusion.

Yeah that was hilarious. Him seeing the number 14 getting out and asking him to get back in and send the number 24 out. Funny. But that game was HORRIBLE. And wow Boumsong is not fit. Domenech may have done them a favor by starting him with Squillacci but how wrong would that be!!

I cannot believe that Boumsong is a Lyon target. Hopefully Lacombe was watching the game and retracted OL’s offer.
