Werder Bremen’s Boubacar Sanogo rubs it in…
By: Magnusson | November 29th, 2007
It is not a secret for anyone who has been following marseille this season that we’ve been having some huge problems with the offense. We know José Anigo has been going all around the world to scout players who may or may not pan out. This is the moment Boubacar Sanogo chose to stir a knife in the open wound that is my heart right now. He litterally killed me! The guy that has Europe boiling since the beginning of the season (alongside Ribéry, Benzema, Benarfa, Nasri and more recently Yassine Chikhaoui) was invited this afternoon on Luis Fernandez’s show on RMC and he litterally brought me to tears.
Seriously, after the wonderful game last night where the Werder Breme managed to kick Real madrid’s ass (3-2) at home without their star player Diego, man of the hour came on Luis’s show to shoot the shit.
And that he did. After the usual dick licking Luis usually offers his guests, he asked him questions about his age, the Ivory Coast and why his name was always floating around in Frane during the summer but oddly enough he never joined the Ligue1. His response was:
“I always had the opportunity to come and play in France, especially when I was in the United Arabic Emirates. I was champion of Asia and then I had contacts with Marseille. You probably know that my agent used to be Pape Diouf . Finally, after a few weeks in marseille, it did not work out. Then, I had Nancy, Nice and Strasbourg who were interested but they wanted me to try out for months so I never actually went there, and those deals never came to fruition neither. Last season, my old coach at Al Ain Alain Perrin wanted me to come to Sochaux with him and Marseille contacted me again at the same time. I was more comfortable with the Sochaux situation and we were two days way from the conclusion but finally I went to Hamburg.”
An opportunity missed by some Ligue 1 clubs because Boubacar Sanogo is no longer interested in coming to France. The 24 year old striker scored 10 goals this season so far and seems to have found his way in Bremen’s attack. The ivorian said this concerning sudden interest by bigger french clubs like Lens and PSG who may be willing to break the bank to get him at the Mercato:
“I play today in one of the best teams in Germany where I get to play the Champion’s League. It’s going to be very difficult for me to come to France. “
Who could really blame the guy?

Man, I hate stories like this. It’s so damn depressing. Do you know that Eto’o actually seriously considered joining Lyon before he became a superstar with Barcelona? But Aulas and Eto’o’s agent didn’t reach an agreement, and we signed Elber instead! God life sucks if you are an L1 fan.

Actually when you guys bought Giovane Elber, he was still a big name. He was still playing for the selecao and everybody concurred it was maybe the push you guys needed to win the CL. You had the choice between Jardel, Elber and Drogba. Everybody thought you guys did the better recruitment. You weren’t wrong in my opinion since you may have had then the strongest team ever (Coupet, Edmilson I’m sure, Muller, Essien, Diarra, Malouda, Dhorasoo I think, Elber, Luyindula, Juninho and Govou plus soem players I forgot). That team lost to Porto when maniche scored at the 6th and 47th minute. the beginning of each half. Edmilson got sent off pretty early in the second and Elber scored twice as well.
I remember me and my friends being pissed as hell and we’re nowhere near Lyon fans. That game was the reason LeGuen left.
The very next day marseille beat Inter Milan in the quarter finals of the UEFA Cup. Great times for us. The Drogba season.
I’m gonna have to check out that game again this weekend. I remeber it was all Camel Meriem that night.Posted from

To be honest, I think few Ligue 1 managers would have felt they lost out on Sanogo after his Hamburg adventure. When Bremen signed him, most people thought that they had become really desperate. People whispered names like Anelka or Elmander at Bremen and then Allofs presents a guy who scored like four goals all season. Since Hamburg even ended up selling him for a bit more than they paid Kaiserlautern, the press thought Hamburg had made a very clever deal. Seems to be there’s something in the water at Bremen…

That must be it. But can you tell me what his fight with carlos Alberto was all about?

The question is really ”how much will Marseille sell Mamadou Niang for?”.
If they sell him, then they really shoot themself in the foot.

As someone who writes about the Bundesliga, I have to say that I have not been upset by his decision

Magnusson: Sanogo had just been back from injury and Carlos Alberto’s tackles were a bit clumsy/mean. Sanogo supposedly said he should stop that, but he didn’t and then the fight started.

Francis, I really don’t think they would sell a player of that caliber at that point in the season. Mamadou Niang’s stock just got up tremendously and he won’t go at the mercato. He’ll come back from the ACN and play for us. I really can’t see the major african players in Europe getting sold after ACN j
