Tyrone Mears and the Mercato is done…
By: Magnusson | September 1st, 2008
British right-back Tyrone Mears came on loan from Derby County (English First Division) this morning for the traditionnal medical visit and was then officially included in the roster. The 25 year-old Brit will come in as a potential back up for Laurent Bonnart who was the only player without an official one yet. This just to say, that save for a catastrophy, Mears won’t be playing much in that #8 jersey of his (After Oruma and Gragnic, that number will start looking suspiscious).
To the loan is added an additionnal sale clause of 2 million Euro if he does well. Asked why bring in another player with a “big” salary while we had a french U21 international in Gary Bocaly, Pape Diouf replied that Bocaly needed some playing time and was getting it at Montpellier, confirming the fact that Mears will be here to release Bonnart the same way Ronald Zubar did during the few games the left-footed right back was suspended or injured.
In the meantime, Marseille sent out on loan three of their youth team products that Gerets was not interested in develloping at this time, offensive midfielder Amine Dennoun (22) will go to Ajaccio (L2), defender Leyti N’Diaye (23) leaves for Reims (L2), as is the case for left-winger Salim Arrache (26), whio was himself just coming off a loan to Toulouse.
Pape Diouf took the time to reiterate the fact that neither Gaël Givet nor Bostjan Cesar would be leaving since no serious proposal came to his desk yet. Givet, one of the bigger salaries, still fighting for a spot with Hilton and Erbate has a contract running till 2009 and Marseille will have to sell him at the latest during this winter’s mercato unless he revives his careeer à la Karim Ziani in the meantime, since Marseille wouldn’t be very smart letting such a talent go fo free. As for Bostjan Cesar, the guy is a sweetheart but should have left years ago.
