The Kone Show feat. Marseille
By: Richard | October 17th, 2009
We have had quite the cloud over our heads in the month of October. Loss after loss, injuries, police investigation and even some haphazard airline travel. Forget that though lady luck is back on our side. Today saw three unlikely characters step up and give us a much deserved win. Put it this way, today even I liked Brandao thats how well I think we performed.
First off it was a surprise to see our captain starting as many though his knee sprain would have sidelined him another welcomed sight was to see Valbuena in the starting eleven. Things started off incredibly fast for us as Valbuena netted one quickly in the fifth minute. I don’t know what it is but for me Valbuena’s goals are something else. They have that wow factor and todays little kung fu-esque kick was beautiful. The rest of the half saw us dominating in possession, but a second goal continued to eluded us.
Second half was more of the same but in the beginning it looked as if we were getting a bit complacent. Thats when Deschamps brought in Kabore for Cisse and drum-roll please….Kone for Valbuena. I’ve been critical of our lackluster attacking options so to see Kone return was wonderful. He looked healthy and more importantly was creating chances in no time. In just over ten minutes , Kone delivered a text book through pass to Brandao and whataya know Brandao delivered. Its no secret I’m a big critic of the Brazilian but times like this I can forgive his inconsistencies. Kone played like he was making up for lost time and again set up another goal for Fabrice Abriel of all people. Effectively the final nail in the coffin. I almost had to do a double take, Abriel scored and 3-0 without any help from Niang? More importantly look at the impact Bakari had in his first game back, bravo sir.
In the end getting goals from unlikely places is what made this game so rewarding. In fact if I was Deschamps I would have taken out Niang well before the 84 minute because frankly we didn’t need him and how many times can you say that. Keep in mind this week is do or die for our Champions League campaign but with a win like this, things are looking good.

Good win. I was disappointed that Abriel started ahead of HBA.
Big match against Zurich. OM need to take 6 points from them. I am sure Real Madrid will beat Milan home & away. With luck we can go to San Siro with Milan having to do it all. I just wish like fast forwarding to that matchday.
