Pape Diouf: “They hate each other? It’s hardly news…”
By: Magnusson | June 20th, 2008
I was watching last night’s 100% Euro with Pape Diouf as a guest - Sidebar, for anyone wondering, Estelle still hasn’t talked about the proposal.
So Pape Diouf was there and talked about the different files and players Marseille has been following. He confirmed that there was a deal done with Bakary Koné and that all they’re waiting for is for Nice to negociate. A deal should arrive soon enough.
As for Hatem Benarfa, he said that they’ve been talking to the player about his future but that dealing with Lyon is always difficult. So soon for more news.
As for Samir Nasri, he refused to say anything. What’s the deal here? For a done deal, it takes an awfully long time to materialize. He added that the deal was supposed to be upwards 15 million euros.
And surprise, surprise, taling about the French National Team and the debacle, Pierre Ménès underlined the fact that contrary to what a lot of people think, Samir Nasri and Franck Ribéry hate each other. To what Pape Diouf responded “It’s hardly news, and honestly, I still can’t understand why…”
This confirms something I’ve been told many times but refused to believe, that Samir Nasri is so bigheaded hardly anyone on the team could stand him. It seems that while everyone sees Hatem Benarfa as a brat, it seems that Karim Benzema (who had altercations with Lilian Thuram and Thierry Henry during the Euros) and Samir Nasri (who stuck with his boy and mouthed off senior players) are the real brats.
THis blows my bubble. If the young kids we all see as the future are already assholes, what’s going to happen to the French NT.

hah!!! Well it’s nothing a good manager can’t heal! And even if he can’t, they’re still young and not really famished for trophies, once they get into the game they will at least get along on the field and act professional.

Well Benzema probably shouldn’t even have been selected for the Euro. That is a big tournament and step for such a young (and immature) player. I wanted Trézéguet not Benzema.

To keep it 100% real, I wanted Benzema, but both his and Nasri’s behavior towards the old guard has been apparently outlandish. His head is growing bigger by the second.
This reminds me of an old Equipe Magazine profile on Mourad Meghni that was titled “Zinédine Qui?” when Zidane retired from the french NT and they were looking for his replacement. Meghni has not been seen since in l’Equipe Magazine.Posted from

Sounds like Samir is well suited to the English Premier League then. Let’s hope the real hero of last season, Mathieu Valbuena, keeps his feet on the ground.

I agree that Benzema and Nasri are getting big headed, but I thing this respect for the old guard is getting too out of hand. It was the old guard who played the worst this tournament (Sagnol, Henry, Coupet, Thuram, Malouda, Anelka, etc), and they shouldn’t feel that they are above criticism, even if it comes from players younger than them (though of course it should be worded respectfully).

I agree with you but this is not about criticism. It’s more of an education thing. Henry has a seat in the bus of the Team and when he wanted to get to his, Benzema told him to go sit elsewhere. Aside from that, after the second game, he was so pissed he started criticizing Henry and Thuram, to what Makélélé told him to shut the fuck up and thn Thuram gave him the nickname Benarfa for his constant whining.
And the fact that he’s constantly with Nasri not trying to fit in made him quickly very unpopular. These things would have never happened a year ago. What’s worse is I feel they’re doing them a disservice by letting them believ they’re so great. Djibril Cissé scored 25+ goals for three seasons at the same age 5 years ago. Let not get ahead of ourselves. Neither Nasri nor Benzema have done anything more than just show great talent. They have buzz, hype around them but haven’t done anything noteworthy yet.Posted from

I agree - they are still not proven players yet. And contrary to what everyone believes, a lot of Arsenal fans don’t even want Nasri…They feel he’s too unready and maybe even overrated.
When France get a coach with a head screwed on, he should just drop the guys with big egos to teach them an important lessonPosted from

Perhaps it was the heat of the moment, I mean we hardly had a successful tournament so maybe tensions ran high.
They’re still kinda young so they’ve got time to shape up and become level headed players.

Can you let me know where this information came from please? (I believe you as a source, but if I bring this up on another board, it’d be better to have more specific documentation for it.) Thanks.

same reason as glatisant (glatisant ook een nederlander?:D)
And how do you know that Ribéry and Nasri hate each other?
I thought benzema was a nicer boy, Nasri shows to everyone he is big headedNot nice things to hear, though, I love the French team partly because they play nice and got nice players, like Henry and Zidane some years ago
