Marseille in the Champions League, Samir Nasri leaves…

By: Magnusson | May 19th, 2008

2959985510.jpgThank God Micka Pagis doesn’t hold a grudge. The Rnnes striker who still is very popular with Marseille fans is going to be even more popular. Saturday at 8, Marseille was fourth and Nancy had their future in their own hands. To be completely truthful, I didn’t believe one second Nancy would let anything by them when they haven’t lost a single match at home this season. Thankfully, Rennes was still in the running to get to the UEFA Cup and Mickaël Pagis scored twice and made sure WE could go to the Champions League.
So in a game that won’t be forgotten Marseille beat Strasbourg 4-3 in what was Strasbourg’s best game of the season. They made us work for ours and we did. Marseille scored pretty early with Mamadou Niang’s 18th goal of the season. After that Strasbourg came back pretty quickly as well with a Fanchione goal at the 10th minute. Seven minutes later, in a beautiful move, Kevin Gameiro scores Strasbourg’s second. Marseille will score first on a penalty by Cissé and then with a beatiful Nasri kick in the first half’s extra time. At that moment Mamadou Niang and Stephane Cassard had both been replaced after a terrible shock they had with one another.
Coming back from the locker room, Nigerian junior Simon Zenka equalized for Strasboug and every one had to wait for the 79th minute and Djibril Cissé’s second goal of the night to send us to heaven. A missed penalty by Modeste M’bami at the 84th minute became anecdotic.
Here are a few highlights

Now Samir Nasri let slip after he got out that he wanted to “finish things well”. At the end of the match, he was asked about his half-time declaration and he said that he wanted to leave things clean no matter what happened. That my be code but veryone i able to crack it. My guess is that Arsene Wenger finally convinced him to come over in Arsenal. We’ll see how loyal to his hometown team he really is and if he’s going to follow his frind Karim Benzema’s example.
My guess is that he’s already gone. You could see in his face that he was just trying to have a few days of vacation before the information becomes official. More soon

Nasri leaving hurts, but I think next year is the season where Valbuena really cements his status.

I remember how around this time last year Nasri was talking about how he was too young to go abroad and still had to prove himself in France. In my eyes, he’s still too “green” (on&off the pitch) and has yet to make the Ligue impact he had promised.

I remember this too. he was saying how he needed two more years at least to prove himself. But I don’t know what happened. After the sickness and all, he showed he was not built for the Champions League just yet and I firmly believed he was not going anywhere.
But since he’s changed representations and started dating Tatiana Golovin, he seems a little more hollywood. Which would be fine if his best friend didn’t seem more grounded than ever. I hope that IF he leaves, he goes to Arsenal where Arsène Wenger would somehow nurture him. The sad thing is here’s another marseille native leaving Marseille like a thief.
