Marseille 1-3 Lille, Not much to say
By: Magnusson | April 24th, 2008
It’s a rare occasion when Marseille loses a match and I have nothing bad to say about our team. I mean let’s just look at our season so far. If you really look at it, you understand it’s a miracle that we’re here. It’s especially true when you realize that we were BEHIND Paris SG after the 11th round. Sometimes every year, there are games when you lose because of the accumulation of matches.
First of all, he weather was bad, with raining and winds so fast it looked like we were playing at Lille. Let’s get serious, it was raining for everybody and this is not an excuse. So let’s not take this as one. But I’m pretty much convinced that if it was not this humid, Steve Mandanda wouldn’t have done the mistake he did, his first one of the season.
On another note, marseille scored first with Mamadou Niang at the 13th minute. The senegalese striker scored his 16th goal in the Ligue 1 this season, putting him one goal behind Karim Benzema. Then Samir Nasri missed what could have been the second goal four minutes later on a Laurent Bonnart cross.
Then what happened is everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. After our Cana-less midfield got eaten up by Lille’s midfield (Can someone deny one second that Mavuba/Makoun/Cabaye is the best midfield in the Ligue1) multiple times, Mirallas scored twice in 3 minutes and Makoun scored at the hour-mark. It could have been worse since mandanda could have gotten a red card on the first Mirallas goal. His next move was to let the ball slip from his hands on an Obraniak strike.
Anyway, without Cana, with a mamadou Naing who was not supposed to play and a Valbuena just coming back to play his best friend, I didn’t really think we could win with panache. We lost, that underlines our Captain’s importance in the club. Niang came off pretty early but Marseille fans will notice how for the first time in his LIFE, Samir Nasri got booed like he was Cissé. People are feeling that he’s trying to save himself as much as he can for this summer’s Euro and ultimately to leave.
The problem is that a lot of people used to believe that Samir Nasri was humble, smart and stuff but a lot of people have been feeling that he’s becoming a little smug. Samir apparently has his dad as an agent (that’s never a good sign) and Marseillais still rememeber the Carquefou match. NO matter how much of a Minot he is, they want him to show some enthusiasm. Let’s not forget that he still hasn’t extended his contract. Hopefully he’ll come back to his better days soon.
I’m gonna hold any type of judgement until after the Monaco game this weekend.
