Rebirth of Gignac?

Rebirth of Gignac?

Two games two wins a total 180 from last years nightmare at least so far…. Last week I talked about how impressed and at the same time anxious I was for Gignac to do right for the club. Much like in our opener Gignac showed vestiges of his glory days in Toulouse powering through the Sochaux defense letting his presence be known. It was finally in the 54th minute that Gignac connected on a corner putting OM up by a goal. Andre celebrated as if a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. Saying how he felt last season he has “descended into hell” I honestly feel for the guy the move to his childhood club has not gone the way it was supposed to. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new chapter for the striker in which he can finally prove his worth and be the player this club needs.

As for the rest of the squad overall it was a nice performance. Makes you wonder where was this team last year? Another impressive performance from Cheyrou giving the wonderful corner which setup Gignac. Not wanting to overlook our second goal, Rod Fanni was superb albeit Sochaux didn’t provide him with much trouble he was still dominate on the flanks. His efforts were ultimately rewarded in his late goal. Now this may be splitting hairs as truly our squad played their collective asses off but if I had to single out a player who didn’t have their best day, that would fall on Andre Ayew. He just didn’t seem like himself on the pitch struggling to win chances, squandering others he was not the headache for defenders that we see week in and week out. Chalk it up to fatigue, or just one of those days, I’m not concerned in the least for him.

So far Baup remains undefeated as OM’s coach and I’m enjoying the honeymoon while it lasts. Possibly being Azpilicueta’s last game for Marseille was bittersweet. Happy to see the fans give him the standing ovation I just wish we could have had him just a bit longer. Regardless of Azpi take solace in our 65% possession and lets bring this momentum to this weeks coming match with Montpellier.
