Just in time for the Classico, we get trophies…
By: Magnusson | February 17th, 2008Tonight is the night. It’s the classico, the superclassico, the classic of all classics, the derby of all fucking derbys. OM-PSG, PSG-OM. A rivalry so big books have been written about it, a rivalry that often borders on hatred. What can I say that has not been said earlier about this confrontation? Nothing really. I will try to keep my partisanship to a minimum until after tonight’s game.
Marseille has been on a roll in 2008 and it seems like we could win this easily to the untrained eye. But no matter where these two teams are in the standings, no matter the talent or form of the players of either side, this is a match so special the french Presidents like to attend. The players will be focused. All of them.
I’m going to spare you any kind of pronostics. All I can say is that Paris is the best AWAY team in the Ligue 1, even better than Lyon (5 wins, 4 draws and only 2 losses). So it will be a very hard task for our team to win and win we must. Not just for pride either but to finish one of our better weeks of the season.
After a long series of defeat (nearly ten consecutive parisian victories!), Marseille has had a rather positive streak against paris since 2005:
2004-05 : OM 1-1 PSG
2005-06 : OM 1-0 PSG
2005-06 : PSG 0-0 OM
2006-07 : PSG 1-3 OM
2006-07 : OM 1-1 PSG
2007-08 : PSG 1-1 OM
All in all Marseille won 17 of the 27 classicos that took place in the Vélodrome, drawing 6 times for only 4 little osses in over thirty years. Let’s keep those odds going.
On another note, Mamadou Niang was elected Player of the Month of December by the Ligue Nationale de Football and since he left for the African Cup of Nations, He couldn’t receive his trophy. The same honor was bestowed upon Djibril Cissé for the month of January (with 9 goals in a month, even Benzema couldn’t keep up) and he will receive his trophy as well tonight before the Paris match-up. Both our strikers have been on fire lately and i’m crossing my fingers that it stays this way.
The Game will of course be shown on Canal+ tonight but also will be available via streaming video on MyP2P

Here’s something I’ve been curious about: you’ve mentioned somewhere before that you’re a Parisien, right? How did you become a Marseille fan, and why? What about the rest of your family? What is it like being a supporter of OM from the capital?
