The chosen One. Yep people, he’s back and it was about damn time too. Every Marseille fan has been anxiously waiting for the return of our young prodigy Samir Nasri since he hurt himself July 7th during a preparation game. Not that the team has been ludicrous or anything but Samir Nasri’s magnitude and importance has tremendously changed last year. So much so that he’s been given the Best Young Player of last year’s championnat, succeeding his then teammate Franck Ribery and receiving the prize from the hands of his idol Zinédine Zidane.
Nasri is poised to become the heir to both Ribery and Zidane in Marseille and in the french National Team. Of course it would be unfair to believe that he would change the team alone but there is so much hope that lies on his tiny shoulders that every irrational behavior on the fans part can be forgiven. We’re not even sure he’s going to start the game against Rennes this Saturday at the Vélodrome. But the notion that he’s been allowed by the medical staff to join the team and the announcement by Albert Emon late Thursday makes us all believe that the magic is on its way. That particular magic that made marseille seem invincible last march and that we hope we’ll have when the Champions League begins.
On a sadder note, it has been confirmed that Mamadou Niang will be away from the pitch for at least three weeks after being injured on Saturday afternoon against Strasbourg. Despite that, he still seems to be pretty attractive top some Europeans teams since back-to-back UEFA European champions Sevilla have made an offer for 7 million euros for the senegalese striker. There’s no way Marseille will sell their best player of last season but it nice to see our players getting recognized on a european level.
Now Rennes has been playing a pretty attractive style of play despite losing to Nancy last week and it will be interesting to see if they will bring that to the Vélodrome. Everything we need is a first win for our first game home.
Oh! And Saturday will be Djibril Cissé’s birthday. “Satellite” (that’s how my friends and I used to call the kid) will be 26.
