First official mercato signing, Charles Kaboré…
By: Magnusson | December 18th, 2007
After Mathieu Valbuena two seasons ago and Vincent Gragnic this summer, Marseille will be atking another raw diamond from Libourne Saint-Seurin in National, Charles Kaboré. The very good relationship these two clubs ahve been having helped us snatch the man that has been compared for two years now to Michael Essien and Djila Diarra. It seemed somewhat compromised when Barcelona entered the picture a few days ago but Marseille reacted quite fast and bought someone that was supposed to come here only next year. Anyway, I’m very pleased with this signing because the nineteen year old from Burkina Faso has shown a lot of good things so far in France and I’d love to see him blossom at Marseille the way Valbuena did. He’ll be needed when Lorik Cana gets all the offers he’s gonna get at the end of the season.
According to L’Equipe, Kaboré will be at the Commanderie tomorrow to sign his contract and do the traditionnal medical visit. Kaboré himself didn’t make any mystery that Marseille to him, like a lot of young african french-speakers, is the club they have been dreaming to play for.
Welcome to your new home, Charles.

Ribery also spent most of his career in the French lower divisions. France has so much depth when it comes to talent it’s just crazy.

Yeah!Sometimes I remember seeing Obraniak when he was at Metz and thinking to myself “this guy will not stay after the mercato”. I remember when Bodmer was at caen and thinking the same thing.
I watch a lot less L2 now because law school takes some time but I regret watching young talented players killing it daily.Posted from

Libourne, out of all clubs. I just can’t figure it out. Hey, OM’s gotta trust them at this point. Even though Gragnic isn’t Valbuena bis.

Gragnic is not muc of a player, but Ligue 2 and National players are of considerable quality compared to lower leagues in other countries. Cannes, Le Harve, Montepieller, Sete and Libourne always seem to have interesting young players for teams to look at. I wish Lyon did a little more youth recruiting in the lower leagues these days.

Corey I must disagree. It took a year for Valbuena to settle at Marseille but since he’s dirtcheap, no one complaijed. Gragnic shows nice things with the CFA and he’ll have his shot during the ACN. As for Lyon, their budget is so big and the team so strong that Ligue 1 IS the lower league. So of course when they take Bodmer and Keita it’s like they bought them in Luxembourg.

It is funny that you say that because I think Lyon feel the same way too. With so much money in their coffers they really want to get talent from abroad. Problem is that even though they have the money, that talent doesn’t want to come to France. So they are still “forced” the recruit in France. Like they spent a lot of money on Bodmer and Keita, but they wouldn’t have enough thought about them if they had a realistic chance with Sneijder and Quaresma (both of whom Lyon were linked to last year).
Lyon are trying really hard to be a big club in the sense of attracting players, but they aren’t a Bayern Munich.

To get there, they need to be winning European trophies. But the truth is if they start having homegrown talent like Benzema and Benarfa, and letting them blossom there, that will do a lot for their credibility (because Benz & Hatem aren’t the first LYon phenoms in the last ten years, Maurice, Dhorasso, malbranque, job, kanouté and giuly all had decent careers)
