ERIC GERETS gets the coaching gig….

By: Magnusson | September 25th, 2007

42609.jpgPape Diouf came out of a meeting a few minutes ago to announce the name of the new coach. And it’s Eric Gerets. You might say Eric who? And the only thing I can honestly remember about that guy is that he was the coach of galatassaray while Franck Ribery was there. Aside from that, he managed to coach a few known teams and win a few titles. But enough with that man.

I would like to first pay hommage to one of the best coach we’ve had in Marseille and I would like to tip my hat to someone who has managed to always keep his cool and give us a lot of spectacle during the years he’s been in the club first as an asistant-coach then as a CFA coach than as an assistant to Jeannot Fernandez then as the head coach since the 2006 season. Albert Emon was responsible for bringing Marseille to the Champions League yet at the first crisis we manage to fire him. I’ve been heated with our management a lot this year but they haven’t stopped making mistakes. I was pretty hopeful that things would turn around but apparently patience doesn’t pay in Marseille which is why we’ll never win anything in a long while. The electrochoc we were waiting for may materialize itself with the ass whooping we will certainly get in Anfield next week.
Because as they say, “Bad luck never comes alone”, Samir Nasri has been hospitalized for a virus and won’t be training until next week. I hope he gets well soon enough to able us to stay in the Ligue 1.
I hate it that we were so brash in choosing a coach. The first man that should be fired is the one doing the firing, José Anigo. That man has absolutely no use for us unless recruiting virtually dead players like Matt Moussilou and Sitchev.
Now I have supported this club first, not the players nor the coaches but this time, I’m as disgusted with the situation as I was when Roland Courbis was shown the door. I’m sure Albert Emon will get another team soon and will come beat us at home as some of his predecessors have done before.
Now good luck to the new guy.

damn man, looks like management doesn’t read the blog homie. for real though, they should take a look from time to time. holla at diouf, i know you got connects ;) i’m with you on the fact that its the wrong decision. way too early to pull the plug like that. especially with what he accomplished last year. oh well, maybe this will serve as a jolt to the players and will have an on field effect. maybe not right away but theres definitely plenty time left to get this right. a get well card to Samir Nasri. always knew dude was sick but its another story when he GETS sick. le pauvre, things gotta start looking up soon. the only question is, will it be the case of getting worse before it can get better?

This is unrelated to coaching, but what do you know about Samir Nasri? I read that he’s been hospitalized with a “meningitis-like virus.” That’s very worrisome because meningitis can involve the brain and central nervous system. What’s the OM press saying?

Yo Rami, you know what’s funny, I just got reacquainted with this girl from my high school through Facebook and she’s Pape Diouf’s niece (I didn’t know that). She made all her summer internship in the Club. I was so jealous. She might come to GDub for a semester. I’ll tell you more.

Laurie - Actually the menigitis-like symptoms involve neck stiffness and blinding headaches. Which is why he’ll only come out of the hospital next week. They say they want to take no risk with him this tilme. This was the reason he was absent this weekend against Auxerre. What’s odd is he was looking extremly pale against Besiktas. He was already feeling the flu but didn’t want to say anything.

    Booooooooo.

I suppose Diouf is challenging for a UEFA Cup spot.

I hope that won’t sign the end of the Champion’s league for you.
The players seemed to love Albert Emon. That won’t be easy to adapt to a new coach so fastly.

I happen to be a great fan of Eric Gerets, I mean he took Galatasaray when they were in heavy debt and made them champions with a record amount of points. In other words, he works good under heavy pressure. I feel that if the Marseille board give him the funds that he needs he can easily fix the club up quite nicely

Key phrase: giving him the funds he needs.

He won’t get any funds until this winter at least. So he’ll have to do without those. BUt apparently he seemed pretty confident with the current squad. He arrives alone tomorrow morning.
