Baky Koné is very close…
By: Magnusson | July 16th, 2008
President Maurice Cohen gave Pape Diouf and his Marseille counterparts an ultimatum stating that if Marseille didn’t give them what they were asking for on tuesday (that’s yesterday not next week), Bakary Koné would remain a Nice player for at least one more season.
Pape Diouf didn’t seem all that impressed with the declarations and believed common sense could prevail (common sense meaning that Nice would rather be aware of the tranfer early and try to get their hands on someone else instead of waiting til the last minute to lose him.)
So Marseille made an offer on Tuesday morning (or was it monday night?) and according to L’Equipe the two clubs came to an agreement very quickly on a 9 million Euros compensations, to which would be added 1 million if Marseille’s Champions LEague run is satisfactory. The only problem is on the percentage of the future transfer of the Ivorian international.
According to the publication, Baky Koné should be at the Commanderie by the end of the week.
As we speak, the Drogbathon is going strong even though some hackers canged the numbers for two days, making some people belive that more than 50 million euros had been pledged. The real number is a little inferior as there has been 2.5 million pledged as of yet.
Didier Drogba has not given an official statement but his agent, Thierno Seydi (ironically, the man runs Pape Diouf’s ex-business, Diouf having pu his activities as an agent aside to become our President), said to the StarAfric website that Drogba was very touched by the initiative but that it was “pathetic”, showing how french clubs can’t afford his transfer. Seydi added that not only couldn’t they afford his transfer they couldn’t afford his salary neither. This is sad but true (even though with a personal fortune of 10 Billion Euros, SpongeBob could afford it without any problem). Let’s see how much people pledge before Drogba decides where he’s going next week.
