Marseille draws Liverpool, Porto and Besiktas….

Let’s leave my state of high pissed-offness to give you some news.
Today was held in Monaco the UEFA ceremony for the Champions League group stage draw and also to honor the European Club Player of 2007. Marseille that was in the third pot drew Liverpool, Besiktas and Porto. So the 2005 winner, the 2004 winner and a turkish powerhouse. Our group will be incredibly hard for us to get through but at least Djibril Cissé will get to have his wish come true. He has said multiple times he wanted to go back to Anfield with our jersey on, So we’ll see what happens.
Here are the different groups:
Group A: Liverpool, Porto, Marseille, Besiktas
Group B: Chelsea, Valencia, Schalke 04, Rosenborg
Group C: Real Madrid, Werder Bremen, Lazio, Olympiacos
Group D: AC Milan, Benfica, Celtic, Shakhtar Donetsk
Group E: Barcelona, Lyon, Stuttgart, Rangers
Group F: Manchester United, Roma, Sporting, Dynamo Kiev
Group G: Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow, Fenerbache
Group H: Arsenal, Sevilla or AEK Athenes, Steaua Bucharest, Slavia Prague

Marseille will have it rough if they want to go through but anything’s possible. Chelsea and Valencia are back in the same group again, Roma and Manchester will have some revenging to do. This sounds fun but I’m pretty sure Inara won’t be pleased when she sees her boys got the Group od Death with Barcelona, Stuttgart and the Rangers.

Cisse will never learn. If he’d kept his mouth shut in the first place, he’d probably still be wearing a Liverpool shirt. He dug his own grave at Anfield. Please keep all us Liverpool fans informed of what Djibril has to say prior to our meetings, I’m sure Stevie-G will be amused. With some of the best slide tacklers in the world in Gerrard, Mascherano, Sissoko, and Carragher, it’d probably be best if he said some kind words.

I don’t think he has any ill will against the players. He and Gerrard are good friends apparently and he still has alot of respect for Benitez. What he said was he wished to go there with Marseille and show them they made a mistake not trusting him.
    I’ll keep you posted anyway

For the moment, Benitez made the right choice when he told Cissé to leave Anfield…

1 goal in 5 games isn’t really what Benitez was looking for… when he has Torres, Kuyt, Voronin and Crouchie in the changing room.

Cisse played his time in Liverpool. It would have been nice for him to be healthier during it (he is fun to watch) but I don’t think many Liverpudlians lost much sleep over him leaving and I don’t think they will lose much more over him returning.

Beat Benfica twice and steal one from Porto and you guys will be fine.

    Easier said than done, though….

I’d like to see Cisse score too. He’s not one of my favorite by any means, but I’d be happy to see a French club at least put up a semblance of a fight at Anfield (as opposed to a total collapse aka Toulouse).

I was really surprised by the scond Toulouse game. They lost at home but fought. When they went to Anfield, they just gave up.
Last time we played Liverpool, we won and passed to the next round in the 2004 UEFA Cup. But we had a team with as much spirit as they had skills. Barthez, Drogba and Beye being leaders helped a lot in Anfield.

If you beat Porto atleast once then you’ve got the good chance of progressing to KO stage!!
