Back on the grind…

I would like to apologize to everyone for the lack of updates but I just came back home and was not able to watch Marseille Rennes until yesterday night. It was a very pleasant game and Marseille showed some extremely promising stuff on the defensive end. Laurent Bonnard will definiltely be an assett at some point and seems to be a very interesting and more experienced alternative to Taïwo that will come handy during the African Cup of Nations or when Taïwo isn’t fit. He showed some very good initiative on his side and seemed to have chemistry with Zenden. The truth is, Marseille never seemed as dangerous as when Samir Nasri was on the pitch. The kid is just special and even though he only played one half and got a little hurt, he showed how much he could give to his teammate this year. During the first 20 minutes of the match, our domination was obvious but Djibril Cissé was too lonely for us to be really dangerous. That’s exactly when you understand how important Mamadou Niang is to this team. The most important chance came once again from Karim Ziani who hit the right bar of Simon Pouplin’s cage. At half time, Samir Nasri was replaced by Matthieu Valbuena who is in my mind more of a winger but he brought explosivity to that side and a much needed boost to Djibril Cissé. That half was more Rennes’ though because their defensive organization was able to neutralize both Cissé and Zenden. And they even were closed to winning the game when Olivier Thomert sent an amazing kick right into Habib Beye’s feet.
This match was more than what I thought it would be. I don’t see any crisis and truthfully I don’t mind waiting. We just need to score once and the machine will be on.

It just takes time for a team to gel together. Marseille have made so many big changes to their lineups that people shouldn’t expect them to play harmoniously from the outset. I’m sure once they get their rhythm, things will be okay.

They should definitly be better once all the newbies get to know each other better. All we don’t need is a beginning like two years ago when we had to wait the sixth round for our first win and actually came up two points short for the Champions league. We need a win to calm the fans. Then we’ll be able to focus on building relationships.
