Happy Birthday Charles Kaboré!
By: Richard |
Just what exactly is going on here?
A very happy birthday as Charles Kaboré turns 22 years old today. If you’re wondering as to why out of all OM players I’ve decided to make an article for Kabore well I’m trying something new for the blog. Basically it give me the excuse to talk about an individual player when its their birthday. Their performance thus far and what we as fans like/dislike about them. Read the rest of this entry »
Olympique de Marseille vs Valenciennes: Player ratings
By: Richard |
Well my voice is officially gone after today’s amazing game. I think this was the most exciting game for me personally even eclipsing the Lyon game. This weeks cup game I believe has been the turn around we needed and with the cup final on the horizon plus the Europa League, things are definitely looking up if not great! As a result of today’s excellent performance I’ve decided to post my own player ratings. Read the rest of this entry »

Match Preview: OM vs Montpellier
By: Richard |
Well I’m still coming off the victory from our cup match earlier this week. That being said this weeks opponent is the wonder team that is Montpellier. After being promoted from Ligue 2 MHSC has been on quite the tear, certainly surprising many this year in their own run for the title. A Sarah said it “OM have another huge game today– we seem to have had a lot of those this season.” Montpellier currently sit in second place, two points ahead of us on the table (granted we still have that game in hand). Therefore a win tomorrow could see us rise to second place as long as Lille lose or tie with Lens. Read the rest of this entry »
OM vs. Lille: Coupe de Ligue Quarterfinals Preview
By: Sarah |
This is the type of match-up that can make a domestic cup competition exciting. Undoubtedly, the result of this game will have a broader impact outside of just the League Cup competition- it could give OM the confidence to get them through the rest of the season. This competition is OM’s best chance for getting its first trophy in 15 years. We’ve played well thus far in this competition- beating Ligue 2 team Trelissac (2-0) and St. Etienne (3-2). For more on those games, see my earlier post here. But, even though OM were victorious when they beat Lille earlier this season with Brandao’s header- I expect this fight will be much tougher. In the words of Bonnart in the press conference this afternoon, this will be “a big battle” for Marseille. If you forgot how we won last time, highlights below the jump… Read the rest of this entry »
OM vs. Bordeaux: Match Preview
By: Sarah |So OM have another huge game today– we seem to have had a lot of those this season. We will be playing the current champions and leaders, Bordeaux, who sit 11 points above OM and 9 points ahead of second place Lille in the table. Before, we dive into the game, I think its important to recap what the team has been up to the past few weeks…
MATCH BACKGROUND
Success in the Cup of the League
Marseille won two of the League Cups game since the start of the new year against Trélissac and St Etienne.
OM-Trélissac
The game against Trelissac was pretty one-sided from what I’ve read in the press- I admit, I didn’t get to see the game. It’s hard to see the Ligue Cup games when two Ligue 1 teams are playing each other- it’s almost impossible when a team from one of the ameteur leagues is playing. Though OM dominated the game- they (again) lacked efficiency in front of the goal. Regardless, I was sad not to have been able to watch since my two favorite players scored- Ben Arfa and Cheyrou. Hatem was voted man of the match for his performance. He has now scored once in an official game- his only other goal this season was in a friendly…against another non-Ligue 1 team. It’s a start– now I hope he tries scoring in an official league game against a Ligue 1 team!

OM-St. Etienne
OM followed up their performance against Trélissac with a more challenging league cup game against fellow Ligue 1 team St Etienne. As should be expected, this game was much closer- and OM were lucky to get through by winning 3-2. OM came from behind each time to equalize and then scored the winning goal in the last minute of overtime. The good news is that Niang’s scored the winning goal in his game since his injury AND that Brandao, the King of missing great opportunities, scored twice to help OM come from behind. The less than good news is that Ben Arfa, who was given a place in the starting 11, lacked consistency again and was unable to follow up his positive performance against Trélissac. In the end though, his substitution allowed Niang to come up to score the winning goal.
Our next Cup of the Ligue opponent in the Quartfinals is Lille, the team currently sitting second in Ligue 1. The game is scheduled to happen on Wednesday, January 27th. Read the rest of this entry »
Mancini Deal Dead!
By: Richard |
“We have turned the page and that is that” Gassier himself has admitted that OM are no longer going after Mancini. While Inter and Marseille had agreed to terms for a loan deal the ultimate decision lay with the player. OM had given the Brazilian until noon today to make his final decision and nothing came of it. Earlier I had asked you guys your thoughts on the possible deal and it seemed the unanimous decision was a big fat NO. Well I for one am happy this deal broke down as its obvious now that Mancini did not want to play in France. In fact it seems he would rather sit on the bench in Italy. Well now thats out of the way lets hope for a positive result against Bordeaux. Please feel free to join the live blog for the game here
Deal Or No Deal
By: Richard |
So I’ve been wanting to post an article about the signing of Alessandro Faiolhe Amantino aka Mancini. Everyday I’ve checked the usual places for some sort of official statement regarding his sighing. What was once a deal that was near completion is all of a sudden on the rocks and may not even happen now. Read the rest of this entry »
A salesman minus enthusiasm is just a clerk
By: Richard |
These past few days have been sort of a dry spell in terms of news. Many names have popped up on the transfer radar never to materialize into anything concrete, a lot of boy calling wolf if you ask me. Today however two startling figures appeared about our very own Ben Arfa and Matthieu Valbuena. Now if these figures are indeed factual then it gives a little insight as to why past players like Cana and Ziani were sold for nothing more than a smile and a handshake. Basically OM brass are bat shit insane and are drawing numbers from a hat. Read the rest of this entry »
New Year, new training camp…hopefully new team?
By: Sarah |
I hope everyone had a happy holidays! Unlike the EPL (and La Liga to some degree), Ligue 1 players and bloggers have had a bit of break but now the title race is back on. And now Marseille has to get serious- and stop making silly mistakes (see Richard’s Auxerre post and comments here). So, to prepare for the upcoming games, the boys returned to training today and will be leaving for an intense training camp in Spain on Sunday until Wednesday. Hopefully, while there, things such as focus, talent and team work will miraculously fall into place. After all, its a new year- why not a new team? Read the rest of this entry »
